The Browns, a very bad football team, played the New England Patriots, a very good football team, today, and it went just about as you'd expect. With Tom Brady returning from a four-game suspension for supporting Donald Trump, er, deflating footballs, the Patriots offense hummed, especially when Brady looked the way of his enormous tight ends Martellus Bennett and Rob Gronkowski. Toss in the Browns losing their third quarterback to injury to five weeks, and it all adds up to a 33-13 loss.
The Browns were overmatched all afternoon long, but even when they were in a position to make a play, they did things to ensure said play didn't happen. Like when Browns linebacker Demario Davis, who was chasing down Patriots running back James White on a screen, threw a block on his own teammate, Briean Boddy-Calhoun, while Boddy-Calhoun was lining up to make a tackle. The block allowed White to run free up the sideline for an enormous gain.
We have no clue what Davis was doing. Maybe he thought Boddy-Calhoun was a member of the Patriots despite being outfitted in all-brown? Maybe he's just completely given up on life? Whatever the reason, it's the perfect summation of another no good, awful day for the Cleveland Browns.
