Brock Osweiler, who has failed to lead the Cleveland Browns on a single touchdown drive through two preseason starts, looks to have been demoted to the no. 3 quarterback on the depth chart. As the team quickly prepares for its proverbial dress rehearsal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night with DeShone Kizer at the helm, Osweiler doesn't need much practice, since he won't see a single snap, per Adam Schefter.
Upon processing all this information, Osweiler came off a bit perturbed in his Wednesday morning press conference with the media, and though a change in demeanor is certainly warranted, taking a swipe at the general manager of the only team willing to take on your overweight contract is an interesting play.
While the Browns did well to leak the too-good-to-be-true story of being so impressed with Osweiler in training camp that any thought of shipping him away had evaporated from their minds, that pleasantry quickly unraveled with the news that the Browns' Osweiler Trade Center has remained open all summer.
With Andrew Luck's slow recovery from shoulder surgery casting doubt over his regular season availability, Indianapolis is the hot team of the moment in terms of a trade partner for the Browns for Osweiler. Meanwhile, Cody Kessler is taking second team reps and Osweiler is angrily pacing the sidelines.
It sure doesn't sound like there's going to be a Brocktober in Cleveland.
